Adapting Cask Stillages for a New Micropub

Fabrication and modification of ten cask stillages for installation on a custom behind-the-bar racking system.

The Challenge

A local brewery approached Craft3D while fitting out a new micropub. They wanted to retain a collection of vintage, along with several newer, auto-tilt cask stillages and mount them on racking behind the bar where the casks would remain visible to customers.

The existing stillages had not been designed for the proposed racking arrangement, so a practical method was required to adapt them for installation.

The Solution

Each stillage was modified using mild-steel angle, cut and fitted to suit the supporting racking.

The new mounting sections were positioned and welded directly to the stillage bases, creating a simple interface between the existing equipment and the new rack structure while retaining the original tilting mechanisms.

A total of ten stillages were adapted ready for installation in the pub.

The Result

The modification allowed the brewery to reuse its existing collection of cask stillages as part of the new bar installation rather than replacing them with a completely new system.

The project demonstrates a straightforward approach to one-off fabrication and equipment modification, adapting existing hardware to suit a new application.
